11 new government Medical Colleges Inaugurated By PM Narendra Modi In Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and the new campus of Central Institute Of Classical Tamil (CICT) on January 12. The inauguration ceremony by Narendra Modi was conducted on Wednesday at 4 PM. 

The new medical colleges are being established under the sponsored scheme of ‘Establishing of New Medical Colleges Attached With Existing District Hospital’. Under the scheme, medical colleges are established in districts that do not possess a government or private medical college.

The 11 medical colleges are being established at an estimated expense of Rs. 4000 crores and both the Central and Tamil Nadu government are funding the project. The central government has funded a lump sum of Rs. 2145 crores for the project and the latter cost is incurred by the Tamil Nadu government. 

11 new government medical colleges will be established in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu namely Virudhunagar, Namakkal, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri. 

The 11 new medical colleges will have an intake capacity offering 1450 medical seats for students. This is to promote students to study and contribute to the healthcare industry also making education more affordable.

The establishment of the new campus of CICT in Chennai is PM Narendra Modi’s vision to protect and preserve the heritage of India and promote learning of classical languages. The CICT is a three-storey campus fully funded by the Union Government having a library, multimedia and seminar hall.
