Highlights

  • A low-pressure area is formed over the Bay of Bengal to result in cyclone Yaas
  • This storm is quite similar to Tauktae formed in the Arabian sea
  • The storm will lash on the shores on 26th May.

After a severe attack by the cyclone Tauktae, there has been a warning about another cyclone storm, Yaas, to lash on the shores of the Bay of Bengal and harm the states like Odisha and West Bengal. Sadly, there are notions that this storm might take up a dangerous form like Amphan last year. Maximum security is being taken for this storm on the shores.

Yaas Has Similarities With Tauktae

A low-pressure area is being formed on the north side of the Andaman sea and the adjoining region of the Bay of Bengal. This low-pressure zone will intensify on the 22nd of May. It is expected that the natural process will increase over the next few days. The Indian Meteorological Department says that the storm will lash on the shores by the next 72 hours. This is similar to Tauktae on the Arabian sea.

Affected States Taking Precautions

The states like Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, and Meghalaya are most likely to receive a good amount of rainfall because of this system. Isolated places may start receiving rainfall from the 25th of May. This has already been predicted by the weather department of India.

There have been some alarming notes about this storm over the last few days. The weather department has announced that the cyclone may be as dangerous as the last cyclone, Amphan if the low-pressure zone remains over the sea for a long time. If the cyclone moves fast and reaches the shore quickly, there is a possibility that it will not harm the localities so much. We have already seen the amount of destruction caused by the Amphan storm last year. If this happens this year too, there will be serious destruction of personal property.

Officials of Odisha and West Bengal have already started to pack up for the storm. They have been taking precautions. The West Bengal government has notified the farmers about the crops that must be reaped before the storm comes on. The Odisha government has asked the boats to come back to the shore before the storm commences.
