After a long wait by the states, the central government has finally allocated the fund for the covid affected families of the nation. The kins of the people who lost their lives due to the infection are likely to receive some ex gratia fund from the government. The entire issue has been prodded by the Supreme Court in order to help the families who have lost their loved ones during the pandemic.
An ex gratia fund of Rs 50,000 is to be paid by the State Disaster Response Fund or SDRF to the ones who have been affected. The amount has been fixed by the National Disaster Management Authority or NDMA after the Supreme Court stated that the central government cannot shy away from the prospect of paying compensation to the people.
With 4.5 lakh deaths within the nation, the amount of compensation will be far too high for the states to bear alone. The large amount of funds of the SDRF will be released by the central government.
