India will start administering the third dose of Covid-19 vaccination to priority groups i.e. health workers, frontline workers, and senior citizens over 60 years of age with comorbidities after consultation with their doctors from January 10 onwards. No new registrations are required for the Precaution 3rd dose. You can directly walk into the nearest vaccination centre or book an appointment online via the Co-Win app from January 8th onwards.

Are You Eligible For Precaution Third Dose?

Only those who have taken their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine with a gap of 9 months reflecting from the date recorded on the Co-Win app can take their Precaution 3rd dose now. There must be a gap of 9 months i.e. 39 weeks between the second and third dose as prescribed by the Government and recorded within the Co-Win app.

Eligibility Criteria For Precaution 3rd Dose – All You Need To Know

  • Frontline workers, health workers and senior citizens with co-morbidities post doctor’s consultation are eligible for precaution 3rd dose.
  • To receive the precaution dose, a doctor’s certificate is not mandatory but it is advised by the government that the senior citizens must consult their doctors prior to receiving the precaution dose.
  • There must be a gap of 9 months i.e. 39 weeks between your second and third dose. It has been recommended by the government to take this precaution dose only with a 9-month gap between the second and third dose as recorded within the Co-Win app.
  • The same vaccine will be administered for the third dose as taken for the second one. For those who received Covishield before, their third dose will be Covishield and those who received Cowaxin will receive the same in the third dose as well. No mix and match of vaccines will be given as ordered by the government.
  • No new registrations are required for taking the precaution dose. Appointments can be booked on-site and online on the Co-Win app itself. Even walk-ins into the nearest vaccination centre are permitted.
  • Vaccination will be administered to priority groups and will be free of cost in government hospitals.
  • You must have a voter ID, Aadhaar Card, or Driving license or passport and valid documents while visiting the vaccination centre.
