Bail Granted To Narayan Rane In The CM Uddhav Thackeray Dispute

Union Minister Narayan Rane was granted bail by Mahad court in Raigad District. He was arrested on Tuesday by Maharashtra police and was accused of threatening to “slap” CM Uddhav Thackeray. He was released only nine hours after his arrest. 

According to the sources, the district officials have informed that there were four more FIRs filed against him in Maharashtra.

Dispute Over India’s Independence Day

While speaking to some reporters on Monday, Rane had said that it was shameful that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra did not know the year of India’s Independence. He could not take some time to enquire about the year of Independence during his speech. If he would have been there, he would have given CM Thackerey a tight slap.

Mahad Court Announcement

On Tuesday afternoon, Rane was arrested by the Ratnagiri police and was taken to Mahad in Raigad district. He was produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate at Mahad and police requested his custody for 7 days. In defense, Rane’s lawyer said that he is suffering from diabetes and hypertension and there was no need to keep him in custody. Rane’s wife and relatives also reached Mahad on Tuesday evening.

The sub-divisional officer of Mahad, Pratima Pudalwad, told the reporters that Shiv Sainiks and BJP workers had gathered outside the police station and the court in large numbers and it was tough to keep them under control. The Sena said that Rane had hurt the dignity and disrespected the constitutional post of the Chief Minister.

FIR Lodged Under IPC Sections 189, 504, And 505

The FIR was registered under IPC sections 189 – threatening to injure a public servant, 504 – intentionally insulting to provoke breach of the public peace, and 505 – statements that are conducive to public mischief.

However, after a long dispute, the court decided to bail Narayan Rane and he is presently touring parts of Konkan for the BJP campaign to reach out to the public.
