Lord Shiva finally granted her this boon, agreeing to marry her. However, Daksha Prajapati, her father did not agree to this bond.  One day, he conducted a Yagya in which he invited everyone but Lord Shiva to insult him. Further, he also humiliated Sati for coming to the Yagya. Mata Sati was infuriated and angered, she gave her life by jumping into the fire of the same Yagya.

In her next life, Mata Sati was born as Parvati, a daughter of the mountains, and was thus named, Shailaputri. She performed lots of meditation and prayers to impress lord Brahma. Lord Brahma then blessed her that she will marry Lord Shiva.
