The Students Association of AIIMS issued an apology after their skit performance went viral on all the social media platforms for all the wrong reasons. The news agency ANI reported that the head of the student’s council has stated that the enacted skit was not meant to hurt the sentiments of anyone and the association would take necessary steps to make sure that no such activity takes place in the future.

“Video clip of a Ramleela skit by some students of AIIMS has been circulating on social media. On behalf of the students, we apologize for the conduction of this skit which wasn’t meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments. We’ll ensure that no such activity takes place in future,” the statement read.
The Viral Part Of The Skit
The skit enacted by the student association gave a modern spin to the Ramayana, where Shurpanakha was seen singing ‘tu cheez badi hai mast mast‘ to Lakshman. After Lakshman cut her nose, the modern Shurpanakha said, ‘Tu janta nahi mera bhai kaun hai?’ (Do you know who my brother is?). Many people were laughing at this joke. The modern take on this mythology was criticized by social media users as many users claimed that the students actually insulted the Hindu gods rather than creating a humorous scene.

The reports released by the media showed that the show was hosted by first-year MBBS student Soyeb Aftab and an education app that was formerly questioned for the many controversial movements.
Many users claimed various parts of the performance to be problematic, while others pointed out the religious identity of the host of the show.
