People all over the country are getting jabs of vaccines like Covaxin or Covishield. Each of these vaccines has its own special technology, but both are aimed towards complete immunization against the coronavirus. However, the virus has also started to undergo different forms of mutation, which are somewhat beyond the efficacy of the vaccines. The Delta variant is one of the viral strains which have been detected in India and undergone individual studies. AIIMS Delhi studies show that the Delta variant is capable of infecting those who have been vaccinated completely or partially by Covishield or Covaxin.

The Study By AIIMS On Delta Variant

One of the studies at AIIMS Delhi has shown that the Delta variant of the coronavirus is more infectious than the normal strains. The transmission ability of this strain is about 40 to 50% more than the previous strain. It is capable of infecting even those who have received partial or even complete vaccination. The patients may not experience the more severe symptoms but they can certainly be affected by the Delta strain even after vaccination.

The study in AIIMS has been done in collaboration with the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology. 63 subjects were used in this study. 36 of them had received complete doses and 27 of the subjects were partially vaccinated. 10 out of them had received Covaxin and the rest were injected with the Covishield vaccine. 51 subjects were males while the rest were females. Out of these numbers, it was found that 76.9% of the people who were partially vaccinated were infected by the Delta variant. 60% of the people who were completely vaccinated had this variant infection as well. None of the 63 subjects died, but all of them had a fever for 5 to 7 days.
