Importance Of Republic Day

In the year 1950, the Indian constitution became the supreme law of the country. The Government Act of India 1935 which was imposed by the Britishers was removed. After a long-drawn freedom struggle, India gained its freedom and independence from British rule. The constituent assembly was elected to create and build the Constitution Of India. 

The Constitution of India was passed and adopted on November 26, 1949, and on January 26, 1950, the constitution came into effect. The Drafting committee that drafted the constitution was led by Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, K.M. Munshi, Gopala Swami Ayyangar, Muhammed Saadullah, N. Madhav Rao, and many more. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first president of India and the President of the drafting committee. B.R. Ambedkar is the architect of the Indian Constitution. This is the history behind Republic day.

The Significance of Republic Day for India

There is a huge significance behind the celebration of India’s Republic Day. The Indian Constitution is one of the longest and the world’s second-largest active constitutions. It lays down the duties, power, rights, procedures, directive principles of the government, and fundamental rights of the citizens. January 26 i.e. Republic day holds a significant value in Indian history because it gives the citizens of India the authority to choose their government democratically. 

This day is observed as a national holiday. The entire nation celebrates this day as this was the day on which the establishment of the Indian Constitution took place. On Republic Day, i.e. on January 26, 1950, the Indian Constitution became effective after two years of gaining independence from the British monarchy. This day is celebrated with great joy and tribute by all the citizens of India. On this day across each state, various functions are organized by government bodies, colleges, and schools.

Republic Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm. A parade is held in the country’s capital and broadcasted all across the country. The President, Prime Minister, and other officials attend this occasion and pay tribute to the soldiers and martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the nation. The Prime Minister addresses the nation from the Red Fort on this day. The Prime Minister of India pays respect to the martyrs and lays a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti Flame at India Gate.
