Krishna Janmashtami Festival Celebration In India

Like every festival in India, Krishna Janmashtami is also celebrated in different ways, but the reason for the Janmashtami festival celebration in India remains the same: the birth of Lord Krishna. On this occasion, people worship Lord Krishna. A day before the Krishna Janmashtami, people observe a fast up to midnight as Lord Krishna was born at that time.

1. Mathura

In Mathura, Jhulan Utsav is practiced. According to Hindu Mythology, Bal Gopal, an alias of Lord Krishna, took birth in Mathura. Mathura organizes one of the most grandiloquent celebrations for this festival.

2. Vrindavan

Vrindavan is said to be the place where Lord Krishna used to play with Radha and other Gopis. This is the place where Lord Krishna used to do his Raas-Leela. The celebration starts 10 days before the birth of Lord Krishna, all the temples are lit up, the town is decorated beautifully, and Raas-Leela is performed throughout the celebration.

3. Dwarka

Dwarka is a historic city in Gujarat and one of the most important religious places in India. Dwarka was the kingdom of Lord Krishna after he left Mathura. The celebration of Krishna Janmashtami is done in a very grand manner, and mangal aarti is performed everywhere in the town.

After the Mangal Arti at midnight, Bhog is distributed among the devotees. A night-long celebration is done, which involves bhajans, Raas-Leela, and Gujarat’s famous dance, Garba.

4. Gokul

Gokul is the place where Lord Krishna was left by Devki, to be taken care of by Nanda and Yashodamai. As Lord Krishna was brought to Gokul after midnight, the Janmashtami festival here is celebrated a day after the whole of India. Gokula Ashtami is another name for this festival.

Gokul is the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood, and the place is filled with stories of the mischiefs done by Lord Krishna and his bravery as a child. Dadhikana or Nandaotsav is celebrated by showering turmeric and curd on each other.

5. Mumbai

Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, celebrates Krishna Janmotsav in its unique way. Dahi-Handi, which is done on the occasion of Janmashtami, never fails to amaze people all over the world.

6. Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, oiled poles have pots filled with money tied at the top. Boys dressed up as Lord Krishna try to climb these poles to claim the prize while the people around them throw water at them.
