With the rise of COVID-19, traditional classrooms have now been taken over by online lectures. Many teachers and parents have been consistently demanding that schools must be reopened for physical classes as online lectures have proved to be insufficient. Due to this. The government emphasizes COVID-19 guidelines for schools and protocols to follow to ensure the utmost safety of children.

States will individually decide upon whether schools are required to seek permission from parents and get approval for physical lectures. The central government states it has issued revised COVID-19 guidelines for schools for reopening ensuring safety and hygiene protocols in the view of declining COVID-19 cases. The government has given a green signal to districts having a positivity rate of less than 5 percent to reopening schools but the ultimate decision rests in the hands of the state government.

Sports, music, games, and group activities may be permitted in compliance with standard operating procedures and taking Covid-19 precautions. Maintaining social distancing, wearing a mask, and sanitizing regularly are the COVID-19 guidelines for schools to observe while allowing children to attend physical lectures.

News Over Reopening Of Schools

Schools are fully open in 11 states and closed in 9 whereas in 16 states schools are opened for students of higher education. Schools reopening is a major concern but the ultimate decision rests with the State government authorities. The nation has observed a great loss of learning in the wake of COVID-19. All states have vaccinated at least 95 percent of their teaching and non-teaching staff. A few states have achieved 100 percent vaccination coverage. India is witnessing a daily drop in active cases. Active cases have been decreasing rapidly.

Impact Of Online Education On Children

Many parents and teachers have put forth requests to reopen schools and take physical classes instead of online lectures. Online lectures and lack of internet connectivity have severely impacted students from weaker sections. Experts call this phenomenon to be a loss of generation.

The revised guidelines issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy along with the Ministry of Education recommend preparing bridge courses and implementing them in classrooms.  The phrase social distancing will be replaced by physical distancing. Each child will be given attention by teachers to cover up the gaps due to COVID-19 situations. The gathering of students will be permitted as per SOP’s issued by states.
