Reading Time: 2 minutes

Meditation practice has a long history of providing people with calmness; increased concentration and critical thinking; mental, physical, psychological, and overall well-being. Many cultures and religions around the world, such as Hinduism, Jainism, Sufism, e.t.c, have been practicing meditation as a spiritual activity since ancient times. But meditation is more than just a spiritual ethic, it is more of a psychotherapeutic technique to be precise.

A lot of people tend to practice meditation not because of any spiritual or religious belief but for their own mental and physical well-being. It has proven to be an effective exercise for curing mental illnesses and disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia, and much more.

Disadvantages Of Meditation

As the famous saying goes, everything comes with its pros and cons, and so does meditation. Nothing in this world exists with only its benefits, everything has its side effects. Most people around the world enjoy the fruitful benefits of meditation practice, but it can also have some drawbacks if done in excess, such as:

  • A lot of people start meditating to push away their negative thoughts and start thinking more positively, but it might sometimes trigger negative perceptions in an individual.
  • In order to gain relaxation, many people tend to become unmotivated and don’t feel like doing anything after a few sessions of meditation.
  • In some cases, people also experienced hallucinations and flashbacks of traumatic past experiences.
