Scam By Nirav Modi And Mehul Choksi
Mehul Choksi has been accused of siphoning about 13,500 crore INR from the public money which had been added to the Punjab National Bank. His nephew, Nirav Modi, had also been a part of this scam. He had acquired the citizenship of countries like Antigua and Barbuda in 2017. He had fled to the islands in 2018 when the anger of the people was high and raging against him. Arrest By The Dominican Republic
Four days after the disappearance of Mehul Choksi, the Dominican Republic had informed officially that they had detained the scammer in their custody. The countries which had provided him citizenship refused to take him back and it was decided that he will be sent back to India, where he would be tried in court for the scams he has committed. His bail plea had been refused on the grounds of him being a flight risk.
The bail application was later altered because Choksi requires specialized medical assistance which was not available in the Dominican Republic. That is why the case against him has been adjourned for now.
