The Indian Meteorological Department had predicted that Mumbai might continue to receive heavy to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms in the main and surrounding areas. Heavy rainfall is also expected to occur over several isolated areas according to the weather department. Despite the warnings, the Mumbai floods have started to take away the lives of several people in the city and surrounding places.

Conditions Leading To Mumbai Floods

Heavy rains are continuing to pour in Mumbai and several other areas of Maharashtra. It was also reported that there have been incidents of heavy flooding and landslides in many districts. The landslides were mostly restricted to the Mahad tehsil. Raigad, the coastal district of Maharashtra was the most affected by the effects of landslides. 47 villages were completely cut off in the core of the Kolhapur district. Mumbai floods have caused the roads to become completely submerged, hindering travel and movement from one place to another.

Appointed Rescue Teams

Two Navy rescue teams have been employed for rescue operations in the Raigad district. 5 teams have also been appointed to save people in the Ratnagiri district. The National Disaster Response Force or NDRF teams have started working to evacuate people from flood-affected areas to safer locations in the state.

Damages Till Now

It has been announced that 44 people have already lost their lives in the landslides that have been happening in different parts of the Raigad district. It is also assumed that more than 25 people are trapped under the debris in the landslide.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the families that lost their loved ones. The condition of Maharashtra is quite dire. The state cannot organize any vaccination drives in the areas which are affected by the floods. Unless the situation turns better, the entire process will be at a standstill.
