Highlights Of Nagaland Election Results

Neiphiu Rio, Nagaland’s longest-serving chief minister, is set to take office for a 5th consecutive term following a convincing victory for his party as well as its ally, the BJP. The parties involved have managed to secure 33 seats in Nagaland’s 60-member assembly.

According to exit polls, the BJP and its allies are set to retain power in Nagaland, with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-BJP alliance expected to win 42 out of 60 seats, while the Naga People’s Front (NPF) is expected to win only six. The NDPP-BJP coalition enters the second innings. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition returned to power with ease, as predicted by various exit polls.

Neiphiu Rio is set to be re-elected as CM for a fifth time. The pre-poll allies, who went for a 40:20 seat-sharing formula for the second time with the BJP as a junior partner, won a comfortable majority of 37 seats to form the next government. The NDPP received 25 votes out of 40, while the BJP maintained its previous total of 12 votes out of 20, albeit with six new faces. The NDPP now has ten new members, including the first two female elected members.
