Decades ago in the year of 1998, the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, also popularly known as The Missile Man Of India, in collaboration with the Indian Army, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, and Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research conducted three nuclear tests on the soil of Pokhran in Rajasthan under operation “ Shakti “. Following the incident, on May 13, the group conducted two more explosions under the same project, following which India joined the “ elite club” of countries with nuclear power. India was the 6th country to join the elite club.

In the year of 1998, India introduced its first indigenous aircraft, Hansa -3 which flew high in the sky from Bangalore on the same day. The aircraft was used for flight training and surveillance purposes. 

The DRDO also added a feather to its crown with the test launch of its Surface- To- Air missile Trishul under India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme which was later included in the Indian Army and Air Force.

Since the introduction of the National Technology Day, the Ministry Of Science And Technology, the Technology Development Board with the Government of India honors the masterminds behind the technological innovations that paved the way for a technologically advanced society. The TDB also organizes several seminars and workshops to create awareness among young minds about the importance of technology in the present day. 

National Technology Day 2022 Theme

Since the National Technology Day celebrations were launched in India, the Technology Development Board has organized webinars on a particular topic. “Rebooting the Economy via Science, Technology, and Research Translations” was the webinar topic for 2020. For 2021, the board opted for “Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”. The topic for the year 2022 is yet to be announced.
