The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, was born on 7th October 1952, in Leningrad, Soviet Union which is now known as Saint Petersburg, Russia. He was the third and only child of his parents, Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin and Maria Ivanovna Putina, who had lost their two little sons.

Aged 8, Putin started attending School No. 193 on 1st September at Baskov Lane, in 1960. His elementary education was done there. While in Saint Petersburg High School 281, Putin developed an interest in Judo and Sambo and also started learning German. 

Apart from these, Putin also read books by Karl Marx, Lenin and Friedrich Engels, as a hobby. He graduated with a law degree in 1975 from Leningrad State University, now Saint Petersburg State University. Putin even has a PhD in economics from Saint Petersburg Mining University.

Putin As KGB Agent

Inspired by the movies, Putin joined the KGB, the security agency of the USSR, in 1975 where he was trained at a school in Okhta, Leningrad. Apparently, Putin was an undercover agent for the KGB in New Zealand and East Germany. 

Works of Putin as KGB agent are often downplayed but many believe that it is just a farce to cover up his contributions. On 20th August 1991, Putin resigned from KGB as Lieutenant Colonel to step into politics which went on to increase the estimated net worth of Putin.

Putin’s Political Career – When Putin Became The President Of Russia?

As a first step, Putin became the International Affairs Advisor to the Mayor of Leningrad in 1990 and soon, he was promoted to the head of the External Relations committee where he served till 1996. 

After moving to Moscow that year, Putin joined President Boris Yeltsin’s administrative staff. Seeing him as a rising political figure, the president appointed him as the Prime Minister on 9th August 1999 i.e when Putin became the president of Russia.

How Putin Became The President Of Russia

Putin’s first acting presidency came soon enough in 1999 when Yeltsin resigned unexpectedly in December. Later, he was voted as the official President of Russia, on 7th May 2000 and remained in position for 4 years, adding value to his overall net worth of Putin. 

He was re-elected again for another 4 years, till 2008, after which he had to step down to being Prime Minister due to the constitutional rules. He continued to govern the nation and his third presidential term started in 2012 when Putin became the president of Russia, and lasted till 2018. His current presidential term is the 4th term, from 2018 till now, which explains how Putin became the president.
