India is a land of festivals, and it is a common saying all over the world that you can take an Indian out of a festival, not the festival out of an Indian! The festivals of Ramzan and Navratri are about fasting and special prayers. Despite the holy notions, strict regulations have been placed in India over these festivals’ public celebrations to avoid the spread of covid-19 in every nook and corner of the country.

Rise Of Cases And Celebrations Of Festivals In India

In India, the Covid cases in the last 24 hours have crossed the 1,84,000+ mark, with Maharashtra recorded 60,212 cases. At the same time, the capital reported over 13,468 cases last Tuesday. This has been a spike for a single day, and 81 people are already dead. The Delhi Health Bulletin has announced this.

As this is the time of festivals in India, Navratri for Hindus and Ramzan for Muslims are already here. Simultaneous effects were seen in various temples and mosques around the country. At Kalkaji Mandir, the authorities had issued e-passes to ensure the number of attending devotees. The devotees had to stand in long queues before their turn to offer their prayers at the temple. Social distancing norms were maintained strictly, and the temple had strictly forbidden the offering of prasad.

The Aarti was performed in the Jhandewalan Temple only in the morning hours. The priest and temple staff were allowed at the mandir’s core part to enforce the rules with no public presence. Similar norms were also induced in the Delhi Chhattarpur Temple. This was a significant step taken by the temple authorities to avoid the spread of infection among the devotees.

Statement By Mandir Priest And Mosques

The chief priest of Kalkaji Temple stated that many people often visit this temple to respect the goddess during Navratri. However, this year that had introduced a pass system that only allowed a handful of devotees to visit the temple. No person was allowed into the temple without a mask. Social distancing norms were strictly followed even when devotees were standing in a queue.

The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid had stated something similar in the case of their devotees’ security. People were asked to stay at home if they wanted to offer their prayers to Allah. Even for those who wished to visit the mosque, hand sanitizers were presented at each mosque door to sanitize everyone before entering the place of worship.
