Virat Kohli has announced that he is stepping down from the Test captaincy of the Indian team Kohli announced his resignation from his position. The decision came after he concluded the South African Series recently. He has also withdrawn from being captain at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after IPL 2021. Hence, Virat Kohli resigns from captaincy positions on  Saturday, January 15.

He also took it to social media, that his 7-year long journey as a Test Captain of India has now come to a halt.

Kohli’s Tweet

Kohli’s tweet says that he has dedicated 7 years of hard work, toil, and constant perseverance to guide the team and be their beacon. He says he has given his best. He says he has done his job with honesty and left no leaf unturned, though there have been ups and downs in his journey. He concluded his tweet by thanking BCCI, MS Dhoni, his team, and coach Ravi Shastri for their immense support and for always believing in him.

Virat Kohli Resigns From Captaincy

It was an unplanned decision and came about a day after India was defeated in a Test series against South Africa, in South Africa, with a score of 1-2. Virat Kohli has led India in a total of 68 test matches between 2014 to 2022. Out of which the Indian cricket team was victorious in 40 matches. Kohli has been India’s most successful Test Captain.

Kohli took over the captaincy after MS Dhoni and has never looked back since. He has led the Indian Cricket Team successfully throughout many matches. Kohli’s decision came a few months after he resigned from the T20 captaincy and was sacked as India’s ODI captain before India left for matches to South Africa this year.
