Shradh or Pitru Paksha is a 16-day period in which people remember and pay respect to their ancestors. This sacred event in Hindu culture is marked by offering prayers, food, and daan to the needy, animals and the priests in the temple.
Do and Don'ts in Shradh
1. Offer food and clothes to the Brahmin in shraddh days. 2. Every morning and evening, Remember and Worship for your ancestors. 3. Organize Pooja and Offers prayers by doing Pitru Tarpan through a priest or brahmin.
4. Feed to animals like cows, crows and dogs. 5. Offer only satvik Bhojan to everyone. 6. Those who have pitra dosh, must perform pind daan during these days so that the ancestors can be satisfied and get peace
1. Do not eat non vegetarian food and consume alcohol during these days. 2. Do not purchase anything new for yourself such as - clothes, footwear or anything new. 3. One must avoid doing any auspicious activities during these days. 4. Do not buy new house and new vehicle.
5. Activities are prohibited during Pitru Paksha and the Person doing Shradh,like cutting hair, shaving and nails. 6. Do not lie, Don’t use harsh words and Don’t Curse Others. 7. It is not advisable to participate in these happy occasions like weddings and engagements
