Recently, news has been circulating that Chinese President Xi Jinping might have been suffering from cerebral aneurysm disease. Apparently, he had to be hospitalized regarding the same at the end of the year 2021. What Is Cerebral Aneurysm? 

A cerebral aneurysm arises when there is a relatively weak area in one of the blood vessels in the brain, which leads to a bulge. It is a rare disease that proves to be lethal. If it is not treated in time, the wall of the blood vessel becomes so thin that it ruptures and bleeds profusely into the brain and the area surrounding it. This is known as subarachnoid hemorrhage. 

Oftentimes, these aneurysms are not immediately life-threatening. Their presence is only detected while doing tests for any other problem.

Symptoms Of Cerebral Aneurysm

The disease is a result of the inner walls of the blood vessels become too thin. It is also known as an intracranial aneurysm. It is not an easy task to find the symptoms of cerebral aneurysm. Most of the time, you cannot detect the existence of a brain aneurysm unless it ruptures. They are usually small and exhibit no noticeable symptoms. However, on some occasions, a person may exhibit symptoms of a potential aneurysm. The reason behind this is the little amount of blood that is likely to leak. 

In the rare events that aneurysms have symptoms, it is due to the possibility of them proving on the structures surrounding them. These adjacent structures are most commonly the optic nerves. These symptoms are exhibited in the form of loss of vision or even a lack of eye movements. They can occur even before the rupturing of a blood vessel. There are a few other possible symptoms of a cerebral aneurysm. 

Ruptured Aneurysm

For a ruptured aneurysm, the biggest symbol is a headache. This headache is intense and extremely painful. Some other symptoms include experiencing a stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, seizure, sensitivity to light, and confusion.

While there are no definite Cerebral Aneurysm disease causes but certain variables do show a correlation with the weakening of blood vessels, which could potentially lead to the formation of an aneurysm. You are more likely to develop one if you are female, between the ages of 40-60, and have a family number who suffered from aneurysms.

  • Brain Injury
  • Cocaine use
  • Blood infection
  • Atherosclerosis, which leads to fatty living on walls of blood vessels

Treatment Of Cerebral Aneurysm 

Brain aneurysms mostly receive immediate treatment if they have been leaking or ruptured. If you detect an aneurysm that is small in size and asymptomatic, then you might not receive treatment. 

From then on, you would have regular imaging tests to keep an eye on it in case it expands or changes in any way. You would also receive a precautionary guide: you have to give up smoking and keep your blood pressure at optimum levels. The treatment for these aneurysms is endovascular therapy or surgery.

There have been no official confirmations from China, but there have been speculations that Xi Jinping is suffering from a cerebral aneurysm. He has chosen to stick to traditional Chinese treatments rather than modern medicine.
