Longest Day Of The Year- Summer Solstice

The word solstice has been derived from the Latin word “sol”, which means Sun. The word “sistere” is also from Latin, which means to stand still with inertia. The summer solstice of each year takes place between June 20th to 22nd. The day is also referred to as Midsummer or the First Day of Summer. All these terminologies are viable for the northern hemisphere only. The same phenomenon takes place in the southern hemisphere between December 20th to 23rd. The longest day of the year is not usually sensed by the common people as the increase in duration is not long enough to be perceived as significantly different.
