Shaheed Diwas 2022 – History Of Shaheed Diwas
After the death of Lala Lajpat Rai in the freedom struggle, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru joined the fight against the oppression of the Britishers and also to take revenge for the assassination of Lala Lajpat Rai.
The incidents that followed after their joining the fight shook the British Army! On 8th April 1929, they bombed and destroyed the Central Legislative Assembly. Following the events, they were finally handed to death on 23rd March in 1931 in the Lahore Jail for killing John Saunders.

Significance Of Shaheed Diwas
This year, the Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas 2022 is celebrated on 23rd March by the Indians to honor and pay tribute to the sacrifices of the martyred freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives selflessly for the Independence of their country and people!
Every year, in remembrance of the selfless act of the freedom activists, Shaheedi Mela or Martyrdom Fair is organized near the Indo-Pak border. Many educational institutions, offices, clubs, and social organizations observe Shaheed Diwas by organizing various competitions and concerts based on patriotism! Songs are also organized to pay tributes.

1. January 30, the death of Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi, also known as the father of the Nation, led various movements like Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and Quit India Movement which ultimately resulted in the British leaving India! In all his movements, his vision was to spread peace and nonviolence.
On 30th January 1948, he was killed and assassinated by an enraged Nathuram Godse who held Bapu responsible for the partition of a United India into separate India and Pakistan.
2. March 23, Shaheed Diwas
Shaheed Diwas is celebrated and organized each year on 23rd March to remember and memorialize the selfless sacrifice of the three freedom activists- Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev for India’s Independence.
3. May 19, Language Martyrs Day
9th May is observed as Shaheed Diwas in Assam to pay tribute to the 15 martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protest against the State Government’s decision to make Assamese the official language of the state.
4. July 13, Kashmir Shaheed Diwas
In an event to protest against the oppressing rules of Maharaja Hari Singh, 22 people were murdered by the King‘s soldiers on 13th July 1931 in Kashmir. Hence, on 13th July many celebrate Martyrs Day in Kashmir.
5. November 17, Odisha Shaheed Diwas
Lala Lajpat Rai was a phenomenal figure in India’s fight for Independence. He was assassinated by the Royal Police in a brutal Lathi Charge, resulting in his death on 17th November 1928. 17th November is celebrated every year in Orissa to remember the selfless service of Lala Lajpat Rai.
6. November 19, Birth Anniversary of Rani Lakshmi Bai
Jhansi observes Martyrs Day on 19th November, which also marks the birthday of the Queen of Jhansi, the powerful and victorious Rani Lakshmi Bai. This day also pays tribute to the martyrs of the 1857 mutiny.
7. November 24, Death Anniversary Of Guru Tegh Bahadur
The Sikh community observes Shaheed Diwas on 24th November, the death anniversary of the Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur. He was killed by Aurangzeb in 1675.
