History Of Basant Panchami
Basant Panchami Or Saraswati Panchami has a very interesting story to it. According to the anecdote, Kalidasa was abandoned by his wife. Disheartened by this incident, he decided to commit suicide by jumping into a river. When he was about to plunge into the waters, Goddess Saraswati emerged from it and asked Kalidasa to bathe into it to gain wisdom and knowledge. Thus, the great poet Kalidasa was born. Hence, students worship Maa Saraswati on this day to gain knowledge and enlightenment.
Significance Of Basant Panchami
Yellow is the color of this festival. It symbolizes knowledge and wisdom. On this auspicious occasion, everyone, irrespective of men and women dress themselves up in yellow attires. Girls and women generally wear yellow Sarees or Salwar suits and the males are found wearing yellow Punjabi or kurta.
Saraswati puja is followed by a ritual called Vidya-Aarambham, where small children are introduced to the world of knowledge and education by the blessings of Maa Saraswati.

The shubh muhurat of Basant Panchami 2022 begins at 3:47 am on 5th February, morning and ends at 3:46 am on 6th February. However, the shubh muhurat for the worship of Saraswati Mata is from 07:07 am on 5th February onwards till 12:35 pm on the same day.
Although you can perform the puja anytime, it is advised by Drikpanchang to worship Maa Saraswati when Panchami tithi is prevailing.

Celebrations Across India During Basant Panchami
Basant Panchami marks the onset of the spring season- the season of colors, joy, and love. Thus, this day is celebrated in various ways across different parts of India. Generally, Saraswati Puja is observed in West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura. Here, one can enjoy idols of Maa Saraswati all adorned with garlands of yellow marigolds and offered yellow sweets.
