The first Chief of Defence Staff of India, Bipin Rawat has been pronounced dead on the basis of a helicopter accident that occurred on the way to one of his meetings. He was travelling along with his wife, Madhulika Rawat and 11 other army leaders on the military helicopter. The chopper had crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. The nation has already started to mourn his death in very sad tones. Several people across the country have already expressed their regret over the death of the CDS General. Bipin Rawat had been an important name in Indian defence history. His death is indeed a shock to the entire nation.

The Time And Cause Of The Accident

The crash had occurred as the Russian made Mi-17 V5 chopper had taken off from the Air Force base in Sulur, Coimbatore. The entire event had taken place in the Nilgiri Hills. The helicopter was going through the bottom part of its descent. It would have taken a minute or two to make the final landing. The chopper had finally landed about 10 km away from the nearest road. This had forced the workers reaching for the emergency work to come about an hour late. They had to trek to the actual destination. The crash had occurred by 12:20 and it took a long time for the emergency workers to reach the actual destination.

The video has shown that there had been a huge amount of wreckage in the helicopter crash. It has also been quite clear that the rescue workers had to work very hard to get to the actual location of the wreckage. Charred and completely burnt bodies were pulled out from the chopper with the help of the rescue workers and the police. Mangled metal and the fallen trees had made the rescue work even harder.

Bipin Rawat was the very first four star general of the Indian Army. He was also the very first Chief of Defence Staff of the Indian Armed Forces. Rawat was born in Pauri, Uttarakhand on 16th March 1958. He had been a worshipper of the Indian Army from a very young age because of his family. They had served the Indian Army for several generations. He was awarded the sword of honour in the National Defence Academy.

Rawat had served the Indian Army in different places. He had served India in many of the international conferences on defence actions as well. He had been promoted to Major General within just a few years of his career. He had been one of the most celebrated soldiers of India. He held some of the most important instructional lectures at the Indian Military Academy as well. After being promoted to the rank of Army General, he took the place of Vice Chief of Army very soon on 1st September 2016. He was also given the title of honorary general of the Nepalese army as well. The Indian army members and the members from the foreign countries had identified him as their closest ally in the matters of defence.

Bipin Rawat had also served in one of the most elite and important missions of the Union Mission in Congo. The United Nations had called for some of the best soldiers all across the world. He had been deployed for two important weeks in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The operational tempo had been quite hectic and Rawat was able to handle the situation with his expertise in military operations.

He had been known to take some steps in Jammu and Kashmir which have been condemned by the authorities and advocates of human rights all over the world. One special incident in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017 had irked the entire nation. Bipin Rawat had defended the use of human shields in Kashmir as one of the necessary measures to stop the common people from any kind of action against the army.

The relation between the Indian Army and the local people of Jammu and Kashmir had always been quite rocky. The use of human shields had been very derogatory towards human rights. Even after being questioned about this 2 years later, Bipin Rawat refused to move from his judgement and justification. He had also stated that he wanted the people of Kashmir to use guns instead of stones so that the Army could do what they actually wanted to do.
