3. Shootout At Lokhandwala
A 2007 gangster-action movie, Shootout at Lokhandwala throws light on the real-life conflict between gangsters and Bombay Police that happened in the year 1991.

5. Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran
The movie has its plot revolving around the 1998 nuclear bomb explosion tests which were supervised by the Indian Army at Pokharan. It has been directed and written by Abhishek Sharma. Other writers are Saiwyn Quadras, Shaikh, and Sanyuktha Chawla. Produced by Zee Studios, KYTA Productions, and John Abraham himself, this movie shows all the integral events that led to the nuclear bomb test and everything after that.
6. Mission Mangal
The 2019 movie had some of the best actors cast in it. This movie is inspired by the scientists at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) who led to the development of India’s first interplanetary expedition, the Mars Orbiter Mission. The cast included Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, and Vikram Gokhale.

7. Kesari

The 2016 movie led to a wave of awe and respect for real-life hero Neerja Bhanot. Sonam Kapoor has captured all the emotions of the protagonist, throwing light on her life and how her life’s purpose was decided by her in a plane hijack. She died to save many people who were held captive by terrorists. It was directed by Ram Madhvani, written by Saiwyn Quadras, and produced by Atul Kasbekar and Shanti Sivaram Maini.
10. Dangal
We can’t leave Dangal out of the list of movies based on real life. The Amir Khan-starrer was released in 2016. The movie follows the journey of the Phogat sisters and their lives as female wrestlers. Amir Khan played the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, the father of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. The movie shows how Mahavir Singh Phogat trains his daughters to become India’s first female world-class wrestlers.
The development of the movie was in early 2013. In 2014, Amir Khan interviewed the Phogat sisters on his talk show Satyamev Jayate, and this led to the creation of the blockbuster movie.
11. Manjhi: The Mountain Man
Based on the life of Dashrath Manjhi, this 2015 movie is a biopic. Manjhi, a poor laborer from Gehlaur village, earned the title of ‘The Mountain Man’ by carving a path 9.1 meters wide and 110 meters long through a hill 7.6 meters high, merely using tools like a hammer and a chisel. Nawazuddin Siddiqui tremendously played the role of Dashrath Manjhi.
12. Thalaivii
Thalaivii has been released recently and has quickly grabbed attention. The 2021 movie revolves around the late Jayalalitha and her story. It was released on her birthday and her role was played by Kangana Ranaut. Directed by A.L Vijay, written by K.V. Vijayendra, Rajat Arora, Madhan Karky, and Prasad, this movie has gained immense attention just as the actor turned politician Jayalalitha won the hearts of millions.
