Sriya Lenka, who is an 18-year-old girl from Odisha has become the first-ever Indian to become a part of a Korean Band. Sriya Lenka – India’s First K-Pop Star
The announcement of the selection of Sriya was made by DR Music which is the label of the band BlackSwan. They had announced a post on Instagram that said, Sriya and Gabi were finally selected as members of black swan after participating in the global audition program for the last 6 months,” The band BlackSwan made its debut in the year 2020 and now consists of six members which include- Fatou, Youngheun, Leia, Judy, Sriya, and Gabi.
Auditions were taken for the selection of two members through YouTube. This was after the oldest member Home of the group had left. The audition was taken all over the world by DR Music. Originally only one member was to be selected, however, DR Music took up two. Both the selected members will have to go through intense training which will include standard vocal, dance lessons, and rap to personal training, musical instruments, and language. Who Is Sriya Lenka?
The original name of India’s first K-Pop star is Shreya, but she will be known by the stage name Shriya. Born in Rourkela in 2003, Shriya has been trained in classical dancing as well as other dance forms. “She took me to a Hindustani classical music teacher, who taught me twice a week. But, for the western songs, I had to rely on online videos and self-learning,” Sriya said.
Sriya believes that she has a deep voice and said, “Since I have a deep voice, I faced difficulty in finding the right vocal trainer. My grandmother helped me find one”
In a post where both the new members have been introduced DR Musics said,
“ ‘Cygnus’, which means a constellation of swans, is a project to discover and train trainees to become stars like the Cygnus. Sriya and Gabi are the first generations of Cygnus, which will be introduced soon. Thank you for your interest and support. And the Cygnus project will continue in the future.”
