Like every year, this year too the celebration of the 8 October Indian Air Force day 2022 is to be held in Chandigarh, with the parade having moved the venue from Hindon Airbase.

Indian Air Force Day 90th Anniversary

In 2022, this year will mark the completion of 90 years of the Indian Air Force and its establishment. Thus, India is all ready and geared up for the Indian Air Force day 2022 celebrations of its 90th anniversary.

The Indian Air Force day 2022 theme is yet to be announced. However, in 2021 it was ‘Touching the Sky with Glory’ and a year prior to that, ‘The untiring efforts and supreme sacrifices of its personnel’ were the themes.

On the occasion of the completion of 90 years, IAF personnel will be getting a new uniform made of a different fabric and design for better camouflage. A total of 80 aircraft will be seen flying past the sky during the parade.

8 October Indian Air Force day 2022 celebrations are held with great enthusiasm all across the air bases. In the presence of the air force chiefs and other senior officers of the armed forces, a great show and parade are put up. 

The CAS rewards the deserving with medals. A number of combat aircraft are showcased in the air and a parade is carried out with the soldiers dressed in their respective uniforms.

Why Is Indian Air Force Day Celebrated?

Indian Air Force, also known as ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena’ was inducted officially during British rule as a supporting wing to the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. This took place on 8th October 1932, fifteen years before India’s independence. 

And since then, the great soldiers and aircraft of IAF have been working tirelessly to protect our motherland. To pay respect to them, on 8 October Indian Air Force Day is celebrated with a motive to create awareness and showcase our military prowess.

  • Among all training courses in the special forces, IAF’s Garud Commando Force has the longest training.

  • The highest IAF station is on Siachen Glacier at a height of 6702 metres.
