Siddhidhatri refers to two Sanskrit words siddhi and Sastri

The word “Siddhidatri“ refers to two Sanskrit words, “Siddhi” meaning supreme meditative ability or supernatural ability, and “datri,“ which means a person who gives or blesses. 

According to holy books and scriptures, Goddess Siddhidatri is portrayed as wearing a Vermilion red colored saree, adorned with beautiful ornaments. She is found sitting on a lion, above a fully bloomed lotus. In her four arms, she holds a lotus, a shankha, a chakra, and a gada. 

On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, all the nine forms of the Adishakti are worshiped namely Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, and many more. Among them, the ninth form of Mahashakti is Maa Siddhidatri, who is worshiped on Navratri day 9. 

It is believed that devotees who worship Mata Siddhidatri with full devotion and purity are blessed with the Ashta Siddhis, along with supreme knowledge and powers. She also blesses her children with eternal courage and takes away all the pains and sufferings of her devotees.

Siddhidatri Mata Story – Origin Of Goddess Siddhidatri 

Goddess Siddhidatri, the destroyer of negative energy, who is also known as Mahishasurmardini, is the divine form of Adishakti. 

According to mythology, during the early years of the creation of the Universe, when the Universe was nothing but a giant black ball, devoid of light and life, a divine light came into existence which later took the form of Mahashakti. Mahashakti, the divine feminine energy, further formed Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, also known as Tridev, and advised the trio to please her. 

After worshiping the Mahaskati for many years, she reappeared in the form of Siddhidatri Mata and bestowed upon them the eight siddhis, namely, Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakyamya, Inshitva, and Vashitva for the proper functioning of the Universe, she divided the duties and responsibilities on Tridev. Brahma was assigned the work of creation, Vishnu as the protector of existence, while Mahadev was appointed as the destructor of the Universe. She further created the divine female counterparts of each god, namely Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi, and Mata Parvati respectively. Additionally, she also blessed the gods with other blessings and powers to run the Universe successfully. The contribution of the respective feminine energy is also of utmost importance for the successful running of the Universe. 

She is also the creator of the 14 worlds, where demons, monsters, Devtas, and Apadevtas exist. Mata Siddhidatri rules the Planet Ketu. The color of Mata Siddhidatri is Pink. Why Siddhidatri Devi Is worshiped On The Ninth Day Of Navratri?

It is believed that when God Brahma was unable to create life, without the involvement of both masculine and feminine energy, Goddess Siddhidatri created “Ardhnarishwar”, with the coordination of Mahadev. Ardhnarishwar resembles the close existence of Mahadev and Mata Parvati in one body. Thus, Brahma was finally able to create life with the help of Mata Siddhidatri.

According to another legend, on the Navratri day 9, Lord Rama worshiped Mata Siddhidatri to attain victory over evil. Thus, Navami is observed to celebrate the victory of good over evil. It is believed that worshiping Siddhidatri Mata on the ninth day of Navratri eliminates the negative energies while strengthening the Crown chakra.

  6. In North India, it is believed that Lord Rama worshiped Mata Siddhidatri on Nabami to rescue her female counterpart, Mata Sita, from the treacherous Ravana. 
  7. Maa Siddhidatri possesses different types of Siddhis, known as Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakyamya, Inshitva, and Vashitva.
  8. Kanya Pujan is performed on the occasion of Siddhidatri Puja. On this day, 9 kanyas or girls, below the age of 10 are worshiped as nine forms of Maa Durga. People also seek blessings by touching their feet. 
  9. According to mythological scriptures, it is also believed that Goddess Siddhidatri appeared on the day of Navratri and created the Universe. 
  10. Sesame seeds are provided as “Bhog” to Mata Siddhidatri. 

How To Do Puja On Ninth Day Of Navratri?

Navratri, the celebration and worship of different divine forms of Mahaskati is observed at different times of the year. Ashadha Navratri, Sharada Navratri, Paush Navratri, and Chaitra Navratri are observed to celebrate the victory of good over evil. 

On the morning of Nabami, take a bath and purify yourself. Next, perform Kalash Sthahpna and place the idol or photo of Mata Siddhidatri before the Kalash. Next, do Achaman by taking a few drops of water on your palms and consuming it in the next step. Don’t forget to adorn the idol or photo of the Goddess with ornaments, jewelry, flowers, and a red saree. 

Next, offer nine different types of vegetables to the goddess and wash the feet of the idol properly. Chant the Siddhidatri Devi mantra while performing the Puja Vidhi. Sesame seeds are given as Bhog or offerings to Mata Siddhidatri. It is believed that Sesame seeds have the divine power to protect the worshipers of Goddess Siddhidatri. 

Kanya Pujan is a must on Siddhidatri Puja. On this day, nine young girls, or Kanyas, below the age of 10 are worshiped, remembering the nine divine forms of Mahaskati. People seek blessings from them as well. Later they are fed well and dresses, food materials, and gifts are presented to them.

No celebration is complete without food. Thus, on the auspicious occasion of Siddhidatri Puja, several mouth-watering delicacies are prepared in various households. For example, in Uttar Pradesh, Dal Paratha and Kheer are the main attractions of Siddhidatri Puja. Similarly, ladoos, paan, dahi, Rasgulla, jalebi, etc are prepared.
