Elizabeth II became Queen of England on the 2nd of June, 1953. Elizabeth II, the elder daughter of King George VI, was crowned queen of the United Kingdom at Westminster Abbey on this day in 1953, at the age of 27. She had inherited the throne following her father’s death in February 1952. Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, popularly known as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21st April 1926 in London in the Royal British family. Soon after his grandfather, King George V died, his elder son Edward VIII was seated on the throne. But, his reign in British history was very short-lived as he abdicated from the Royal throne to marry a divorcee, Wallis Simpson. 

Though there were few chances of Elizabeth II becoming the next heir, destiny had other plans for her. Followed by Edward VIII’s abdication, King George VI inherited the throne, which made Elizabeth II next in line for the British monarch! This series of events followed the death of King George VI. After many years of illness and finally, at the young age of 27, Elizabeth II has been crowned the Queen of England! But, when was Elizabeth II crowned queen of England? Beginning with his monarchist reign, King George VI suffered from lung diseases. By the end of 1951, his health started deteriorating. But, he never lacked determination. With his ailing body, he went to see off his eldest daughter Elizabeth flying with his husband Prince Philip for the tour to Africa. 

Followed by Elizabeth’s tour to Africa, a day later the King was found dead by his servant on 6th February. The news of his death spread like wildfire and soon his daughter was made aware of her ailing father’s demise! With a heavy heart, she returned to her homeland to be crowned the Queen of England. 

From the beginning of her monarchy, she paid attention to establishing good relationships with the general public. In an effort to facilitate good public relations, she decided to televise her Royal coronation ceremony, which enjoyed huge viewers, with a rough estimate of about 20 million.
