Why Celebrate Karwa Chauth?

Karwa Chauth is a one-day Hindu festival. But why celebrate Karwa Chauth? What is its significance? Well, to answer it, the fast of Karwa Chauth is kept for the long life of the partners of married women, so that the couple may have a fulfilling married life. The fast of Karwa Chauth is also observed by unmarried women in order to be blessed with the desired life partner.

How To Celebrate Karwa Chauth?

Karwa Chauth is celebrated starting with the married woman waking up early morning before sunrise and eating Sargi given by her mother-in-law. It consists of sweets, vermicelli or rice pudding, poori and other sweet and savoury vegetarian meals. After that, the women fast for the entire day without consuming food or water.

In the evening, all the women observing the fast gather together to offer prayers. They are dressed in complete traditional attire usually gifted by their mothers. Later, when the moon rises, they pray to it. Through a sieve, they look at the moon and then at their husbands who bless them with a ‘Saubhagyawati Bhava’.

The husband then breaks his wife’s fast by feeding her water and sweets. After that, they take blessings from their elders and have dinner. That’s all about how to celebrate Karwa Chauth.
