The World Health Organization has already warned the people that a new variant of omicron is about to hit us. So, which is the new omicron variant? Is it severe like the other variants? What Is Omicron?
The omicron variant of covid-19 can easily spread itself, compared to the Delta variant! But, it is a matter of relief that the omicron variant causes less severe disease than the early variants! The omicron mutates faster, which gave rise to various variants, namely BA. 1, BA. 2, and BA. 3! Reports suggest that virologists and experts are now researching the new variant of omicron, the BA. 3 variant and preparing reports of its sub-variants, its severity, and contagiousness!

Experts on New Variant Of Omicron And It’s Severity
An expert from the World Health Organization, Maria Van Kerkhove said that the most noticeable variant of omicron is the BA.1, BA. 1.1, BA.2, and BA.3, recent research says that the BA.3 variant has mutated further, causing division in the variant, leading to sub-variants!
Another research report published in the “ Journal Of Medical Virology “, on 18th January 2022 confirms the presence of a new variant of omicron, the BA.3 sub-variant. Their research also suggested that the BA.3 sub-variant was a combination of BA.2 and BA.1 variants. There was no specific gene change or mutation in the spike protein of BA.3 sub-variant.
Other studies have shown that omicron is the most mutated variant of the covid-19 virus, but it causes less severe diseases than the other variants!
The Contagiousness Of BA.3 Sub-variant
The new variant of omicron, the BA.3 was first noticed in the north-western parts of South Africa! It is reported that the BA. 3 variant causes the lowest number of cases, among the variants of omicron, namely BA. 1 and BA. 2. According to virologists and scientists, the low Contagiousness rate can be due to the loss of six mutations from the BA. 1 variant or acquiring two mutations from the BA. 2 variant!
Conclusion
Although the severity of the new variant of omicron is low, still some reports say that it might cause serious consequences in some populations, so it is always better to take necessary precautions. The symptoms of BA. 3 sub-variant is sneezing, runny nose, fever, and headache.
