An appeal had been filed in the Delhi High Court to stop the Central Vista work when the country is under a state of pandemic and deaths. This was refused by the Delhi High Court, and now to counter this order, the appeal has been taken to the Supreme Court as well. This raises the question, is it really important to have the Central Vista project done during this calamity?

Order Of Delhi High Court On Central Vista Work

The order that came from the Delhi High Court states that the Central Vista Work cannot be stopped as it is of national importance. The Delhi HC has also stressed that the work must be completed by 30th November 2021. The petitioners were fined 1 lakh INR for filing a “motivated” petition against governmental work. The petitioners were asked by the Delhi HC to deposit the amount to the Delhi Legal Services Authority.

It was stated by the two petitioners that the cold behavior shown by the Delhi High Court for people who are genuinely concerned about the safety of the public is indeed disheartening. Anya Malhotra and Sohail Hashmi, the two petitioners have commented that the decision of the Delhi High Court will demoralize those who have decided to question the actions of the government in these hard times. The entire system shows the death of democracy in India.

Penalty On The Petitioners

The petitioners have repeatedly claimed that they do not have any political motivation for stopping the Central Vista project. Their thoughts about public health and safety resonate with many experts. The catastrophic second wave has left the country in ruins and it is sad to see how the government doggedly continues on a project which has no apparent benefit for the commoners. The construction work at the Central Vista would act as a super spreader of the coronavirus. As a result, the petitioners had classified the Central Vista project under “non-essential activity” during the period of lockdown.
