The origins of the Shakti Peetha are described in a number of stories. The most well-known is based on the legend of the goddess Sati’s demise. Shiva wandered the universe with Sati’s body while grieving and mourning, thinking back on their times together. Using Sudarshana Chakra, Vishnu dismembered her body into 51 pieces, which dropped to Earth and became holy places where all people might pay respects to the Goddess. 1. Lankayam Sankaridevi

The first Shakti form to be worshipped in the Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas is Sankaridevi. On a hillside close to Trincomalee, on the west coast of what is now Sri Lanka, lie the Shankara Devi Temple and the Shakti Peetha. Thirukoneswaram is another name for this location. It is referred to as the location where the mother’s “thigh part” fell.

2. Kamakshi Kanchika Pure

12. Odhyayam Girija Devi

Odyanam refers to the erstwhile Orissan nation of Odhra. Ammavaru arose as the Trishakti’s manifestation in the modern state of Orissa, close to Cuttack, on the banks of the Vaitarani river. Vaitarani Puram is yet another name for this location. In Orissa, Girija Devi Temple, sometimes referred to as Bhirijadevi, is situated 20 kilometers from Jaipur Road. According to legend, this is where Sati Devi’s navel was located.

13. Harikshetre Kamarupa or Kamakhya Devi

In the city of Guwahati, the seat of the Assam state, Velasinadi Kshetra is situated at Neelachalam on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. It is the location of Sati Devi’s “vagina.” In the blue is a rock that resembles a woman’s vagina. That rock produces a small stream of water. Redwater appears for three days once a year. Due to the mother’s menstrual cycle, the temple is closed for these three days. The fourth day is when the consecration is carried out.

14. Prayage Madhaveswari

16. Kashmiretu Saraswatiyana – Sharda Peeth

Some claim that this is where Goddess Sati’s “hand” or “right cheek” is said to have fallen. Legend has it that Kashmir is where the Goddess Amma’s temple is. But given that the temple there was destroyed, it appears that the Shankacharyas built the pedestal in Sringeri (in the state of Karnataka). The Saraswati Temple is 100 kilometers away from Mangalore.
