Birth And Family Of Arvind Kejriwal

Born to father Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi on 16th August 1968 in Siwani, Haryana, the early life of young Kejriwal was much influenced by his father’s values and principles. Being the son of an electrical engineer, young Arvind learned the value of proper education at a very early age. He completed his schooling at Campus School at Hisar and Holy Child School at Sonipat and passed with flying colours.

After he was done with his school, Kejriwal sat for one of India’s toughest examinations, the IIT-JEE. This time too, he did not fail to impress his parents. He scored an All India Rank of 563 and chose to specialise in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur In Kolkata. For his excellent academic achievement, he received a call from Tata Steel in Jamshedpur in 1989 to work for them. Later, he joined the firm but destiny had other plans for him.

He later again joined the IRS but soon resigned from it in 2006 and established the Public Cause Research Foundation which campaigned for just, honest and transparent governance in India.

Before his entry into the Indian political arena, he worked tirelessly for the betterment of society. He launched a movement called Kabir which worked on RTI, Right To Information for the citizens of India and a transparent and honest government. 

Again in 2002, his movement Parivartan exposed discrepancies worth Rs. 7 million in several projects of the Indian Government. 

2. Parivartan (1999)

Before he resigned from his dream job in 2006, Kejriwal campaigned for a movement called Parivartan in 1999 which exposed ration card scams to society and aware the public about such fake things going inside our democratic system. After he left his job, he went on a mission to work for the betterment of his people. He dedicated his life to working to remove corruption from the Indian political system and expose the loopholes in the working of the Indian Government! 

3. Jan Lokpal Bill (2010)

In 2010, he found himself with Anna Hazare, the popular social activist, working in association for the passing of the Jan Lokpal Bill. But, both the leaders were of different opinions on whether or not to politicise the movement. While Hazare did not want to get involved in politics, Arvind Kejriwal – Chief Minister of Delhi was of the view to politicise the campaign as it was the only way to pass the bill. 

Kiran Bedi and others joined Hazare while Kejriwal parted ways with them. Thus, after his separation from Hazare over India Against Corruption movement, Kejriwal established his own political party, Aam Admi Party Led by Kejriwal.

The Aam Admi Party Led by Kejriwal contested in the 2013 Delhi Assembly election and won 28 out of 70 votes, defeating Sheila Dixit, the then CM of Delhi. 

With support from Congress, his party formed a minority government and later he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Delhi on 28 December 2013. But after 49 days, he resigned from the post of Chief minister of Delhi. But, this didn’t stop him from working towards his dreams. 

He again contested against Narendra Modi in the Delhi Assembly election and in February 2015, Arvind Kejriwal was seated in Delhi as its Chief Minister.
