May 1 is celebrated as a day to honor all the workers in the world, irrespective of their religion, caste, status, or any other kind of boundaries. This day is celebrated to make workers aware of their rights. This day is also observed in many other countries like India, Cuba, and China. This movement began as a labor union movement in the 19th century where people protested against the work time of more than 8 hours a day. Now it is remembered as International Workers’ day. While Labor day is celebrated on 6 September.

For understanding the fundamentals of life, the basic qualities of being good humans, and many more things that help us live a meaningful life, we rely upon our educational system, or more precisely, our teachers. 

The teachers couldn’t have proven their importance and dedication more than they did during these times of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s hard to imagine the kind of efforts that they’ve had to put in order to adapt to online teaching. The teachers made sure that all their students were able to study, and cleared all doubts just like they used to in classrooms.

The History Of Labor Day

Labor Day is celebrated with great exuberance, pride, and as a tribute to all those professors in the state of Florida, who have to deal with low wages and lack of opportunities.

From 1880 onwards, educators all around the nation came together to shape the students into better members of the community, and to have a bright future for their students and for themselves. Teachers were at the forefront of the rising American labor movement that occurred during the early 20th century.

The Things We Have To Do For Our Teachers

The teachers have faced a lot of trouble and are still facing the same issues. The ratio between the vacancies for teachers and other non-teaching staff, and the number of students is highly concerning.

While this does mean that many students are not able to get quality education due to lack of teachers, the teachers and the staff have a different story to tell, as most of them live under the constant fear of losing their jobs or a sudden reduction in their wages. 

The Florida schooling system is ranked below average in terms of wages. All that the educators are asking for, is respect for the knowledge and expertise they have in shaping the future generation. But unfortunately, the current educational system has a lot to do in this direction. Labor Day reminds us to value all those assets we had while we were learning. Let’s all join hands, stand up for our teachers, and make sure that they get all the facilities they deserve.
