A heart attack is called a myocardial infarction. This condition arises when a blockage or a blood clot is formed within the arteries, which leads to less or complete lack of blood flow to the heart. In a heart attack, blood flow in the heart is suddenly blocked due to the formation of plaques. These plaques are made out of fatty deposits, including cholesterol, in the coronary arteries. These plaques lead to the narrowing of coronary arteries, and thus heart attack takes place. Heart attack is always said to be fatal and thus it needs immediate medical care.

These diseases have not been discovered just now, but the statistics clearly state that heart attacks in young people are rising tremendously at present. There has never been a particular age to experience a heart attack. This disease is influenced by the lifestyle you follow, the food you consume daily, the workout routines, and also how you manage stress.

It has been seen that most young people do not go for a heart checkup and just start gymming. Without any pre-checkup, people continue doing weight training, running limitlessly on the treadmill, and this leads to thickening of the heart. People also consume supplements that are not considered good for their health, as they cause damage to the heart and cause arrhythmia.

A healthy lifestyle can save one from cardiovascular diseases. Considering the increasing cases of heart attacks in young people, a large part of the Indian population is genetically predisposed to diseases like heart attacks. Cardiovascular diseases are seen to be inherited from the father’s side rather than the mother’s side.

Cardiovascular diseases are also linked to stress and anxiety. Studies have shown how high cortisol levels from stress can make an individual prone to high blood cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and increase the risk of hypertension. These are common risk factors for heart disease.

How To Protect Yourself From A Heart Attack At A Young Age

  1. Stop smoking and encourage people to quit smoking as well
  2. Choose good nutrition, as a healthy diet is very crucial to stay away from any type of disease
  3. Stop or reduce the consumption of saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol.
  4. Being physically active every day is important. If you have a desk job, then at least do physical activities for one hour. This can include bicycling and running, or any other activities.
  5. Maintaining a healthy weight is also important.
  6. Meditate, and if not, then find other ways to control your stress.

The most crucial thing is to have a regular heart checkup, and mandatorily, if your family has a history of heart attacks. Making lifestyle changes like cutting out excess sugar from the diet, monitoring lipids, and controlling fat consumption will help in the prevention of heart diseases. Smoking and excessive drinking also lead to increased chances of cardiovascular diseases, thus these two bad habits should be avoided.
