Dams Open In Order To Prevent The Effects Of Kerala Floods

The memories of the Kerala floods 2018 came back loud and clear as the Cheruthoni dam of the Idukki district was opened. This is one of the largest dams in Asia which was last opened when Kerala suffered from a devastating flood in 2018. Sirens had warned people about the opening of the dam this year as well. People from the low-lying areas were evacuated from their homes. 

The precautions have been taken in order to prevent greater deaths in the state. 60 families have been evacuated from the low-lying region for now. The evacuation facilities have been turned in order to make sure that people do not suffer much under the effects of this dam.

Water Released In Kerala Floods

100 cumecs of water have been released till now. This is quite less in comparison to the amount released in 2018. 2000 cumecs of water were released in the Kerala floods of 2018, as informed by the State electricity board of Kerala informed to the press recently. Several dams were opened all over the state as the rainfall continued to be heavy. Kerala has been suffering excessive rainfall for a number of days now. 

Stories Of The Red Alerts

Many of the reservoirs received the red alert recently. Many of the districts have received the orange alerts as well. Orange alerts are the second degree of alert, which indicates that the rainfall has been very heavy. Marginal amounts of water have been released till now. This will increase in quantity if the Kerala floods continue to pose a threat.
