Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25th December, 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. His mother was Krishna Devi and his father was Krishna Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee belonged to a humble family of school teachers.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s education

Primary schooling of Atal Bihari Vajpayee was done in Saraswati Shishi Mandir in Gwalior itself, after which he moved to Barnagar, Ujjain. There, he was admitted to Anglo-Vernacular Middle School. Atal Bihari Vajpayee did his BA in Hindi, Sanskrit and English from Victoria College which is now known as Maharani Laxmi Bai Government College of Excellence, Gwalior. Vajpayee also has a master’s degree in Political Science from DAV College, Kanpur.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s career

In his initial years, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an active member of RSS, a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He also worked for several newspapers like Panchjanya, Rashtra Dharma, Veer Arjun and the Swadesh. He wanted to pursue his career as a journalist after successful participation in Quit India Movement in 1942 but did not continue after he joined Bharatiya Jana Sangh which later grew into the present-day BJP. He held the position of India’s Prime Minister in 1996.

Counting among the few politicians who never married, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is one of them. He remained a bachelor for his entire life. However, he has an adopted daughter of his longtime friend, whom Vajpayee raised like his own child, Namita Bhattacharya.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death

Atal Bihari Vajpayee suffered from a heart stroke in 2009 which had a negative impact on his speech. Since then, his health continued to deteriorate with diagnosed conditions of diabetes and dementia. On 11th July, 2018, he was admitted to AIIMS due to a critical kidney infection. However, after about two months, on 16 August, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was declared dead, at 5:05 pm.
