On this day, the Maharashtrians and the Konkani people make Gudis or “flag of Lord Brahma“ by tying up a piece of fresh material or fabric surrounding a bamboo stick of around 5 feet long. The cloth piece is well decorated with neem and mango leaves.
Furthermore, the emblem also holds a garland made from sugar candy! The emblem is placed above silver or copper or bronze vessel and is either kept at the entrance gate or on the terrace. On the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa, people wake up early in the morning and follow an elaborate bath ritual, which consists of the Ayurvedic oil bath, which is said to remove toxins from the body and refresh and rejuvenate our skin. Then, the women of the house go on to create beautiful and colorful rangolis around their houses and put on new attires!
