The Merger Of Amar Jawan Jyoti With National War Memorial Flame

On 16 December 2021, the Swarnim Vijay Varsh victory flame was merged with the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame at the National War Memorial. The Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate will not be extinguished, but merged with the National War Memorial Flame on Friday, claims the Government. This will be a historic event and be of great importance where the Amar Jawan Jyoti Flame has been burning since 1972.

According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a visit to the National War Memorial before the Republic parade in 2022. January 26 2022 will be the first Republic Day celebration since 1972, where the flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti will not burn at India Gate and will merge with the National War Memorial Flame from then onwards.

History Of Amar Jawan Jyoti At India Gate

The Amar Jawan Jyoti Flame At India Gate has been burning for five decades and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This Eternal flame has been in the memory of the martyred soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces.

The ever-burning flame is visited on significant occasions of Republic Day, Independence Day, Kargil Vijay Diwas, and Armed Forces Flag Day by the President and Prime Minister of India along with three service chiefs.

It was established in 1972 and has been burning ever since. After five decades of this tributed flame burning non-stop, it was decided that it should be merged with the National War Memorial flame. This eternal flame signifies deep tribute and respect to the martyred soldiers who put down their lives to safeguard the nation during the British Raj war.

History Of National War Memaorial Flame

A second flame was inaugurated and burnt by PM Modi at the National War Memorial to pay tribute to the martyrs of the post-independent India. This flame was ignited by Modi on February 25, 2019. The Chief of Defence staff and three chiefs of the armed forces accompanied Mhim during the inauguration. This flame of the National War Memorial continues to burn and pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation. It is located at Smarak Stambh, the main pillar of the memorial inside Amar Chakra.

The National War Memorial, spread across 40 acres was built for 176 crores. It pays deep tribute to the great contributions made by the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the Indian Navy during the British Raj war.

Opposition Note On Merger

On Friday, 21 Jan 2022, the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate merges with the National War Memorial Flame. Opposition parties speak against the decision and took to Twitter about it. Likewise, Government sources also took to Twitter and spoke about misinformation on the flame and named it “Merging” instead of “Extinguishing”. However, this event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And the merged flame will continue to pay tribute to the brave martyrs of the nation.
