What Is The Significance Of Bhai Dooj?

Now, let us know what is the significance of Bhai Dooj. The day is very important to a brother and sister’s lives. It is a fortunate occasion that honours the close relationship between two siblings of different sexes.

Sisters invite their brothers to come over and cook their favourite meals for them. Sisters likewise ask God for their brothers’ protection from all ills and misfortune so that they may live long and prosper. In exchange, brothers care for and love their sisters as per their obligations.

How To Celebrate Bhai Duj

The Pooja Thali is very significant during the Bhai Dooj celebration. Rice, Roli, Mauli thread, fruits, flowers, sweets,  Chandan Tika, and betel nuts are used to decorate it. This lovely thali is used to do the brother’s Aarti.

Hindu custom dictates that a square seat be constructed out of rice flour for the brother to sit in to complete the process. He occupies this chair throughout the Tilak ritual. In the Hindu religion, Mauli thread is regarded as the most pious and protective thread. When connected to the body, it acts as a protective band for the wearer and sends positive energy to the body.

Similar to a Rakhi, this thread shields the brother from negative vibes and draws in positive energy. There is a lamp placed facing south. After the Tikka ritual is over, it’s customary to give dried coconut to the brothers.

Brothers sit on the seat made of rice flour by sisters and cover their heads with fresh handkerchiefs. Before performing aarti for their brother, sisters give him crystallized sugar, betel leaf, black grammes, betel nuts, and fruits.

Sisters do aarti and puja for their brothers & apply roli tilak and rice to their foreheads while using a lit Diya and a puja thali. Following the Aarti and Tilak ceremonies, brothers bless their sisters and give them unique gifts for Bhai Dooj.

Conclusion

The festival of Bhai Dooj honours the unique and enduring relationship that brothers and sisters have with one another, and thus the significance of Bhai dooj is very high. In a spiritual sense, the event is a reflection of the siblings’ unique ties. While the brothers swear to safeguard their sisters for the rest of their lives, the sisters want for their brothers to live happy, prosperous lives and pray to God to bless them.
