He took to his LinkedIn account and quoted, “Dedicate more time to philanthropic priorities including global health and development, education, and my increasing engagement in tackling climate change.” He also announced that he is leaving his board position at Berkshire Hathaway as well, which is led by his friend, Warren Buffett. 

According to his spokeswoman, Gates wanted to spend the rest of his life pursuing Philanthropy and social work for the poverty-stricken and inequitable. How Bill Gates Founded Microsoft With Paul Allen

Born on 28th October 1955 to William H. Gates Sr. who was a renowned lawyer, and his mother Mary Maxwell Gates who was positioned on the Board of directors of First Interstate BancSystem, Gates completed his schooling at Lakeside Prep School, where he developed his first software program. This was a turning point in the life of Gates as this incident later shaped his life as the Greatest Technopreneur of all time. 

In order to receive free computer time during their school days, Gates and his friends, including Paul Allen, launched bugs in the operating system of PDP-10, which belonged to Computer Center Corporation. Being a talented student, he was able to enroll himself in Harvard University in the year 1973. During his college days, he was in contact with Paul Allen and later met Steve Ballmer at Harvard.

After reading about Altair 8800, Gates contacted MITS and informed them that he and his friends are working on a basic Interpreter for their platform, while in reality, they were sitting idle. After MITS president, Ed Robert agreed to a presentation, they prepared the BASIC interpreter which was a success for the young DUO! Later, they agreed on a deal with MITS to distribute the interpreter as Altair BASIC. 

Following the incident, Allen and Gates co-founded Microsoft and in the year 1976, Microsoft was legally registered. Gates never returned to Harvard! After the separation of MITS from Microsoft, IBM in the year 1980 approached Gates and his organization for software for their personal computer, IBM PC. Later, they delivered PC DOS to IBM, which earned them a small fee.

After transferring the headquarters of Microsoft to Washington State in the year 1981, Gates and Allen were appointed as Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The bond between Allen and Gates broke soon after Allen was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
