India At 75 Celebrations – How India Takes Pride In The Auspicious Event?
The British East India Company came to India with an aim to expand their trade relations with the Indian subcontinent. At the same time, the political situation in India was grim. The Maratha dynasty was crumbling to destruction. Taking unfair advantage of the situation, the British Raj established colonies in the Indian soul. Slowly and gradually, they took control of India and started exploiting the colonies for their own advantage.
Soon, the first revolt against British rule, the Sepoy Mutiny sparked patriotism in the minds of the people. Inspired by the revolt, Indian freedom fighters including, Bhagat Singh, Khudiram Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Matangini Hazra and others jumped into the freedom struggle. Finally, after hug sacrifices and deaths of many, India achieved Independence from the British influence on 15th August 1947.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
In the year 2021, the Government of India, under the leadership of Narendra Modi launched an initiative, known as the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate and observe 75 years of India’s struggle for Independence. The Mahotsav is all about paying homage and tribute to the Indian freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their beloved motherland.
The initiative also honours and respects the people of India who have put their best efforts to make their country proud in the global scenario. The initiative was launched on 12th March 2021 and will end on 15th August 2023. The initiative focuses on a 75-week countdown to the 75th year of India’s Independence from British rule.
The Har Ghar Tiranga
The Har Ghar Tiranga is a campaign launched under the Indian initiative of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The campaign focuses on building a close relationship to our identity, our tricolour or the tiranga! To date, our relationship with the national flag is limited to certain formal occasions only. The citizens of India were not allowed to hoist the Indian tricolour except on a few occasions. But, later the industrialist and the great visionary, Naveen Jindal fought a long battle which ultimately bore results.
The judiciary has clearly mentioned that it is a legal right of all Indian citizens to freely hoist the tricolour or the tiranga with utmost respect and dignity. Thus, to commemorate and celebrate this advancement in the Indian Constitution, the Government of India has launched the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign which urges the citizens of India to hoist the respected Tiranga in their homes and roofs from August 13 to August 15, as a symbol of their patriotism and love towards their motherland.
Additionally, the Prime Minister of India quoted, “ From August 13 to 15, the Tricolour will be hoisted in every house of India. People from every section of society, every caste and creed are spontaneously joining with only one identity. This is the identity of the conscientious citizen of India,”.
76th Independence Day 2022 Theme
The struggle for India’s freedom struggle is not a one-day process. Years of fights, protests and sacrifices by our freedom fighters have brought this glory and freedom to us. It is a day to take pride in our Nation. It is a day when all Indians come together, irrespective of caste, creed and religion to celebrate Independence Day.

Major Events Of Independence Day Celebrations
The celebrations for the Indian Independence Day begin with the flag hoisting ceremony. The Prime Minister of India hoists our National flag or the tiranga at the Red Fort. This flag hoisting is broadcasted and televised throughout various media and people from all over the world can take pride in the event.
- Followed by this auspicious ceremony, 21 gunshots are fired in the sky honouring India’s struggle for Independence from the British.
- Followed by the firing of the gunshots, the Prime Minister delivers his speech on the eve of Independence Day, which is later followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
- The air echoes with Jana Gana Mana as the people of India come together to take part in the singing of our National Anthem.
- The event which follows the speech is the March past and parade by the various military and para-military forces. They perform brilliant March past and parades, honouring our freedom fighters for their selfless sacrifices to free their motherland from the shackles of British rule.
- Apart from such events, schools and other educational institutions also hoist the National flag and sing the National Anthem. Students and teachers take an active part in various cultural activities, from dance, singing and drama to different sports activities.
- Historical monuments of India, such as the India Gate cover themselves up with the gorgeous colours of Saffron, white and green.

Special Invitees For Independence Day 2022
To mark the 75th year of India’s Independence, India has invited Mary Millben, an African American singer to take part in the Independence Day celebrations, 2022. According to the reports, she will be one of the special invitees for Independence Day 2022, representing the US.
The great singer quoted,” As I prepare for my first trip to India, my heart’s sentiments echo Dr. King’s words, “ to other countries, I may go as a tourist, but to India, I come as a Pilgrim “. She will perform at Indiaspora on the auspicious occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India.
Besides Millben, International piano artist, Lydian Nadhaswaram will also perform along with Millben on the Indiaspora Global Forum, as reported by Indiaspora founder, M R Rangaswami.
