On What Model Is The “Calorie-Burning” Weight Loss Strategy Based?

This particular approach to weight loss is considered to be a healthy way to lose weight. This weight management strategy is based on the century-old model that deals with energy, stating that weight gain is primarily caused by consuming more energy than needed. In the present times, it is easier to consume high-calorie food because we are surrounded by highly palatable, heavily marketed, and cheap processed food items that have a very high caloric value. Most of us, due to our sedentary lifestyles, fail to burn those extra calories.

Obesity is not related to how much you eat, but what you eat. Overeating coupled with these foods and insufficient physical activity is the prime cause of obesity. What Leads To Obesity?

It has been stated that the carbohydrate-insulin model explains obesity and weight gain. This model also plays a major role in pointing the way to more effective and long-lasting weight management strategies. The carbohydrate-insulin model states that obesity is caused due to dietary patterns that are characterized by excessive consumption of foods with a high glycemic content, which is nothing but processed rapidly digestible carbohydrates. These processed foods cause hormonal responses that change the metabolism and thus fat storage, weight gain and obesity happen.

What Happens When We Eat Highly Processed Food?

When we eat food that contains highly processed carbohydrates, our body increases insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon secretion. Thus fat cells store more calories, leaving fewer calories for muscle build-up and other metabolic activities. The brain receives the signal that the body is not getting enough energy, and so, is feeling hungry. Metabolism also slows down while the body tries to conserve fuel. We remain hungry even after eating a lot and thus get fat.
