- Many people in India have not received their second dose of vaccination after the administration of the first dose
- The information has been released through the RTI filed by a social activist
- The lack of mass production is leading to such deficiency in the availability of vaccine.
India has been administering the doses of COVID-19 vaccines to its citizens for quite a few months now. The government has tried its best to increase the rate of vaccination in the country so that the third wave can be avoided. However, according to the news which has been released recently, most of the people who have received their first dose of the vaccine have not received the second dose within the stipulated amount of time. The government has informed this in regards to an RTI filed against the vaccination data.
Data Revealed In RTI
According to the vaccination portal which has been set up by the Indian government, 442,285,854 people have already received the first dose of their vaccine. The portal has informed that 125,907,443 have also received the second dose of their vaccine. The difference in numbers is quite concerning. If the people who have already received their first dose do not get the second dose within the given amount of time, it is likely that they will not benefit from the vaccine at all.

RTI Has Been Filed By Activists
Social activist Raman Sharma had filed an RTI in order to know how many people have received the subsequent second dose after getting vaccinated with the first dose. This data had to be released on the basis of both vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin. The Union Health Ministry had informed that the second dose of Covishield had to be administered within 84 to 112 days of the administration of the first one. Along with this, the Covaxin second dose has to be administered within 24 to 36 days of the first one.

The Cause For This Lacuna
It is believed that the lack of resources is causing this delay in the administration of the second dose of vaccines in India. The production process of the vaccines is quite slow and it is not expected that the processes will be sped up anytime soon.
