Highlights:

  • Three private hospitals of India have canceled their order for Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine
  • This vaccine has been made by the largest group of vaccine providers all across the world
  • Indigenous vaccines are more used at hospitals in India.

According to the latest news, some of the private hospitals of India have canceled their orders for Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine. These issues have arisen due to the fact that these shots are not sold that easily in the nation. When there are free doses of vaccines available in every part of the country as sponsored by the government, most people prefer to use those. The storage requirements for the Russian vaccine are quite complex as well. This, combined with the low demand for the vaccine, has led to the cancellation of orders from at least three big hospitals.

Private Hospitals Cancelling Orders For Russia’s Sputnik V Vaccine

Industry officials have informed that most hospitals that have the stock of Russia’s Sputnik V Vaccine are canceling their orders. These vaccines are extremely difficult to sell when the government is providing free vaccines in hospitals. The other issue with the Russian vaccine is that although it has been made by the biggest producer of vaccines in the world, it sells only to the private market. Therefore, the hospitals cannot think of buying these vaccines from Russia and providing them through governmental services.

Reason For Order Cancellation

A senior medical officer in one of the hospitals at Pune has informed that because of storage and other factors, they have canceled the order of over 25000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine. He has further stated that the demand for this vaccine is not quite great. Barely 1% of the people tend to go for the Russian vaccine. The emergency of the vaccines has come to such a level that most people would get any vaccine to get immunized against the pandemic. Over the past few months, the private hospitals have been responsible for doling out only 6% of the total vaccines administered in India.
