Reading Time: 2 minutes

Highlights

  • The third Covid-19 wave might be hitting the country in the months of August and September, as per a report by SBI
  • The third wave might be 1.7 times more intense than the second wave
  • The vaccination process is very slow and detrimental in India at present.

India had suffered quite a lot during the second wave of coronavirus in the months of April and May this year. The country lost many lives mostly due to a lack of preparation for these kinds of medical emergencies. A report has been published by the State Bank of India Research team, warning that the second wave is not yet over and that the third wave might begin in between the months of August and September. The implications of the third Covid-19 wave might be quite severe for the nation.

Threat Of Third Covid-19 Wave Looming Over India

The report by SBI Research Report states that the third Covid-19 wave is likely to hit the country in the middle of August and will peak in the month of September. It is also predicted that the third wave will affect the country at least 1.7 times more in comparison to the second wave. The peak number of cases will consequently be more during the third wave. The previous report which had been released by the SBI Research team about the second wave of the pandemic was more or less accurate. Thus, this data must be taken seriously as well.

India had reached the peak of the second wave in the month of May and it was predicted by the research team that the total number of cases will reduce in the month of July, as per Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Advisor, SBI.

Poor Rate Of Vaccination

It has been seen that only 4.6 percent of the entire population has been completely vaccinated and only 20.8 percent are partially vaccinated. This is quite discouraging in comparison to other countries. The United Kingdom has vaccinated 48.7% of its citizens, and the United States of America has vaccinated about 47.1% of its population.
